Located in the rolling hills of the Brandywine Valley, this historic barn built in 1743 is part of the Sweetwater Farm Bed & Breakfast and Winery. Our clients’ desire was to maintain the historic integrity of the structure while creating a charming reception facility, wine tasting space, a wine production and a wine storage area, all of which are open to the public. The three-story barn was gutted and completely renovated. A shed addition was added for grape crushing which required a covered, dry space. Additionally, the barn is fully equipped with state-of-the-art wine making equipment, a catering kitchen and an amphitheater. Materials used in construction were faithful to the existing fabric of board, batten and stone and there was adaptive reuse of doors and hardware.
