This extensive renovation and addition to an existing 18th century property was accomplished to create a believable visual history describing its construction in sections over three centuries. Salvaged materials with the patina of use were used when they were available supplemented by new hand forged hardware and antiqued custom millwork. Working in detail with a subtly varying pallet of materials such as stone, wood millwork, glazing and period finishes such as milk paints and lime washes, the house grandly marches through time while retaining a comfortable scale in its natural landscape setting and the cozy spaces within. The effect is of a family homestead expanded over the generations as it grew and prospered.
