This project was the total renovation of a house which is an English stone Arts & Crafts house built in the early 1900s which had had few substantial improvements made since its construction and did not fulfill the requirements of today’s lifestyle.
The house was devoid of architectural detail. It was important throughout the design process that we maintained the appropriate scale and proportion while keeping the level of architectural detail compatible throughout the renovated spaces and the new.
Our clients’ requirements included creating better circulation both internally and outside to the garden, increase natural light, create more expansive views of the gardens, provide more family living space including a new kitchen, add an additional bedroom and bath which we did on the 2nd floor and create a clear delineation between the formal entrance and the family entry.
